The question of death being the end has been debated for many years. Many have concluded that when you’re dead you’re done. Some have stated that the pay for sin is death. So when you die, you have been paid for your sin and there is nothing after the point of death. We would like to take a little time and debunk the myth of when you’re dead you’re done, by exposing the origin of death, what happens after death and the victory over death.

Where did death come from and who instituted it? Death was instituted by the Devil. The Lord God gave us life in the beginning when he breathed into Adam the breath of life and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). The Lord in creation gave man a commandment not to eat of a certain tree and notified him of the punishment for disobedience. The Lord told man that the day he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil he would surely die. The Devil in the form of a serpent told a lie to Eve, stating that she would not surely die, if she ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The sad fact is that Eve believed the devil, ate of the tree, took to Adam and he ate of the tree too
(Genesis 3:1-7). For this cause Adam and his wife were separated from the tree of life.  The devil deceived the woman and caused Adam to transgress and death entered into the world. By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men (Romans 5:12). This is the origin of death.

Now it is appointed unto men once to die, for death passes upon all men, as Paul stated to the people of Rome. What happens next? Judgment is after death.  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the Judgment (Hebrews 9:27). A man must give account to God for the deeds done in the body. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God (Romans 14:12). For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ (Romans 14:10). Jesus told his disciples not to marvel at this, for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (St. John 5:28 -29).

There is a man who gained victory over death. That man’s name is Jesus. He died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day
(I Corinthians 15:3-4)
. This Jesus came into the world as a man, for the suffering of death and to destroy him who has the power of death, which is the Devil. He did this to deliver us from the fear of death, for it is that fear that keeps us in bondage (Hebrews 2:9, 14 & 15). For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive (I Corinthians 15:22-23). The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death (I Corinthians 15:26). Death will be swallowed up in victory and we can declare, thanks to God which gives us the victory.

In conclusion, we see that death is not the end. We recognize that through the deceit of the devil and the transgression of man death entered into the world. There will be consequences after death when we stand before the judgment seat of Christ, those who have done evil will have eternal damnation and those who have done good will have eternal life. The Lord Jesus tasted death for every man and got the victory over death and the grave. Thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (I Corinthians 15: 57 -58).
